At the base of beauty
there is a fracture.
Beauty is not a perfect voice
but a broken one,
the breath that escapes anyway.
Beauty is human:
the will to live
despite pain,
with pain,
out of pain.
Not by holding still
but by being shaken
and somehow
existing
anyway.

I am a Turkish American writer and photographer. I work in short-form prose, poetic fragments, and photography. I don’t photograph the event; I photograph the moment after the event. A few things that stay with me: Plato’s Cave, Oberg’s Culture Shock, and Beethoven’s Ever thine. Ever mine. Ever ours. My greatest teacher was my college philosophy professor, Sister Jane Sullivan, who taught me how to think and how to see.

Beauty for ashes ~ God glorified
Isaiah 61:3
Grace has a way of finding us
This captures something fragile and enduring at the same time
Your poem is powerful, brave and honest. You capture the kind of strength people don’t usually talk about. Life shakes you, emotionally, mentally, spiritually and you remain.
You exist anyway.
That survival, that persistence, is beauty.
